Post-consumer plastic no longer recyclable


Earlier this week the City received a notice from it's waste & recycling service provider (Loraas Disposal Services Ltd.) that they are no longer able to recycle post-consumer plastic film items such as plastic and grocery bags, good wrap, cellophane wrapping etc.

This change is due to a shift in products that are currently accepted by Loraas. More specifically, the market where these product were recycled (China) no longer accepts them.

In light of this, Loraas and the City are asking that residents no longer place post-consumer plastic film in their recycling bins, rather they place them in their waste disposal bins.

The City and Loraas have teamed up and are offering non-plastic grocery bags to the first 1000 people who attend our upcoming annual open house on May 15th, from 3pm - 7pm. More information about the Open House can be found here:
