Mayor Spence 2017

City Mayor's Blog

I am very proud to be the first Mayor for the City of Warman.

From the first time I came to visit Warman over 30 years ago it has been very apparent Warman's charm comes from it's people.  The residents of Warman welcomed my family back then, and they continue to share their friendly community with all who come to live here or visit this fine City.  I am pleased to  have this kind of oppurtunity to share on a monthly basis, the good news and positive actions taking place in our community, the City of Warman.  Grab a cup of coffee and read on what is current and happening in the City of Warman.

The Tans Will Fade, But The Memories Will Last Forever

“Summer should get a speeding ticket."

collage 1A cheesy quote, yes, but very true this year! We endured a long winter, just waiting for these summer months to come, and in a blink of the eye it is already starting to feel like autumn!

This summer we received many amazing photos of the City of Warman captured by residents. We really do have a beautiful community. Please keep these incredible photos coming.

This fall, Warman City Council will welcome our new Youth Council Representative, Janelle Johnston. Over the past six years, Council has worked alongside six youth representatives, each with a one-year term. These eager youth residents bring the voice of our younger demographic to the table.

Our youth play a very important role in our community. The opportunity to sit on City Council is valuable to both us and to them – after all, these are our future leaders.

collage 2A few ways you can develop young leaders include:

  1. Teach them about confidence. ...
  2. Be a great example. ...
  3. Take part in youth engagement programs. ...
  4. Teach kids to be organized. ...
  5. Encourage them to make the world a better place. ...
  6. Explain that failure isn't always a bad thing. ...
  7. Allow them to make their own decisions.

There are other opportunities for our youth to grow their leadership skills. For example, the upcoming Youth Leadership Summit taking place on September 27 from 9 until 4. By participating in this event, kids will learn the skills to become a good youth leader in their community. This forum will help them to develop their unique leadership skills by providing motivation and encouraging the kids to become goal-driven. Our community benefits from dedicated youth leaders who help others find the right direction.

Thank you to all the young leaders we’ve worked with over the years, and we look forward to a year with Janelle, the City of Warman’s 2019-2020 Youth Representative.

Summer always leads us to autumn, which means back to school and back to schedules. As you go about your daily routines, make sure to take the time to admire the changing of the season.
