“Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”
High school graduation is exciting — it sparks hope for the future and invites graduates to dream big.
I can’t believe 25-years ago, I was sitting in the parents’ section for my first time. I don’t remember many of the details of that day except thinking, “Where did the time go?” I am sure many of you with graduates are feeling those same emotions. I have to admit, this year’s convocation ceremony is a bit different for me because I have a very special someone who is among the graduates. The next generation of our family is graduating. Now, each year I am proud of all the students who receive their diploma. But this year, knowing that special connection, that same thought of my first Warman High School graduation all those years ago is ringing loud and clear: “Where did the time go?”
So, that was my chance to be nostalgic. Now, let’s turn the focus to you, the grads.
To all the students who have reached this finish line: Congratulations! I am sure it wasn’t always easy, but you made it. Here you are, through challenges big and small, to reach this moment.
It is quoted by Anthony Robbins: “The only impossible journey is the one you never begin.” You began this past journey many years ago, and now you are moving onto your next path in life. But also remember that in life, if you have taken a path and wish to change directions, you can always start again. Life is a journey of many steps, in all directions. Let your steps lead you to a full, balanced and happy life.
I would like to take a moment here to recognize and congratulate this year’s City of Warman scholarships recipients:
City of Warman: Nicholas Neudorf and Amy Remeshylo
Recreation and Cultural Department: Drake Buechler and Rebecca Sawatsky
All the best to these scholarship recipients as they enjoy the summer and then move onto furthered education this fall.
A huge thank you to our community for continued support of the Warman High School Scholarship program. This year 66 students will receive a scholarship from 43 contributors. This year’s total is just shy of $40,000. Thank you to the businesses, community groups and families for seeing the importance of continued education. You have invested in our future in such a positive and personal way.
On behalf of our community, the City of Warman, City Council, and my family we congratulate all the 2019 Warman High School graduates, and wish them all the best as they embark on this next chapter in their lives.
“I hope your dreams take you to the corners of your smiles, to the highest of your hopes, to the windows of your opportunities, and to the most special places your heart has ever known.” —Unknown
