Mayor Spence 2017

City Mayor's Blog

I am very proud to be the first Mayor for the City of Warman.

From the first time I came to visit Warman over 30 years ago it has been very apparent Warman's charm comes from it's people.  The residents of Warman welcomed my family back then, and they continue to share their friendly community with all who come to live here or visit this fine City.  I am pleased to  have this kind of oppurtunity to share on a monthly basis, the good news and positive actions taking place in our community, the City of Warman.  Grab a cup of coffee and read on what is current and happening in the City of Warman.

Warman Has a Story

Studying history allows us to understand our past, which in turn allows us to understand our present.

Learning about history provides us with insight into our cultures of origin, as well as cultures with which we might be less familiar, thereby increasing cross-cultural awareness and understanding.

I love talking with our senior residents about Warman’s history and how they and their families fit into that story. It is important to hear these stories. We need to preserve them and pass them down to those after us.

I remember high school history class being such a bore – I wasn’t alone, was I? – but I clearly did not understand the impact history has on our future.

Today, I am intrigued by historic stories and facts, and this interest has led me to be a part of a new committee to Warman. The Warman History Book Committee is a recently-created group with the goal to gather stories of Warman’s rich past and publish a historical account of our community. Given the scope of this project – our plan is to cover the years between the 1900s through until 2000 – we know it will take a large investment of time, but as a committee we are passionate to see this through.

As we get farther into the project we will be looking for members of our community to submit stories, facts, family history and photos for both the book and for our own archives.

For more information or for submissions to be included in the book, please see our Facebook page, Warman History Book, or email at warmanhistorybook@gmail.com.
