Say hello to summer!
“It's a smile, it's a kiss, it's a sip of wine ... it's summertime!”… Kenny Chesney
Here we are already at the end of June! Graduation festivities, and summer holidays are all around us. Graduations, from preschool, High School, and convocation.
Speaking of Warman graduates, we would like to congratulate Jordan Ramsfield, Justin Chaskavich, Jesse Adrian and Emily Belliveau. These 2017 graduates are the recipients of this year’s City of Warman and Warman Recreation and Culture scholarships. These students have plans of continuing their education in various areas. We wish you all the best as you move into the next phase of study.
What a great community we live in. Thank you for the support of our businesses, community groups and residents who step up and help our students with financial support as they choose their career paths. A huge THANK YOU to you all. The scholarship program benefits our graduates as they move ahead with their education future. These kind of special programs show how unique Warman's partnerships really are.
On behalf of City Council, City Staff, and the residents of Warman we want to congratulate all our grads. Graduation is an exciting time. It's both an ending and a beginning; it's warm memories of the past and big dreams for the future. Remember, follow your passion, it will lead you to your purpose. All the best Graduates!
What comes next is SUMMER holidays. To kick off the summer the nation will be celebrating Canada's 150th Birthday. It's kind of a big deal: the biggest anniversary since our Centennial in 1967.
A few interesting facts about Canada to talk about around your summer campfires:
We are smart - Canada is the World's Most Educated Country: over half its residents have college degrees;
We’re a winter country so it should not be a surprise that we hold the record for the largest collection of Santa Claus memorabilia, the largest number of people making snow angels, the largest street hockey tournament, the largest snowball fight, and the largest ice canoeing race. We’re not all about the winter though, we hold the record for the longest moonwalk and a bit of summer fun with the largest ice cream cake;
A black bear cub from Canada named “Winnie” was donated to the London Zoo in 1915. Winnie became the inspiration for Winnie-the-Pooh;
We eat 55% more Kraft Dinner than Americans;
Canada has more lakes than the rest of the world's lakes combined;
Canada consumes the most doughnuts and has the most doughnut shops per capita of any country in the world; and
We have a phone number. It’s 1-800-OCanada. Seriously.
To mark Canada’s 150th Birthday, Warman is planning a birthday party to celebrate with LOTS of family fun. Food, games, cake, face painting, movie in the park, and ending this fabulous day with a huge fireworks display. Like I said a summer kick off like no other. Celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday at Lion’s Park on July 1st.

I know we all look forward to the warm weather, riding our bikes with our hair blowing in the breeze, the lakes, camping, stargazing, and so much more to love about summer. Whatever you are up to this summer, safe travels, put away the phones, enjoy the scenery and create memories that will last a lifetime! Enjoy your summer!
Happy 150th Birthday Canada!!!!!
“A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.”…..James Dent
