Mayor Spence 2017

City Mayor's Blog

I am very proud to be the first Mayor for the City of Warman.

From the first time I came to visit Warman over 30 years ago it has been very apparent Warman's charm comes from it's people.  The residents of Warman welcomed my family back then, and they continue to share their friendly community with all who come to live here or visit this fine City.  I am pleased to  have this kind of oppurtunity to share on a monthly basis, the good news and positive actions taking place in our community, the City of Warman.  Grab a cup of coffee and read on what is current and happening in the City of Warman.

Graduation 2020

Posted on June 17, 2020 at 4:35 PM by Erin Legg

2020Hello all,

High school graduation is certainly a momentous achievement. But how many of us know what it s like during a pandemic?

During last year s graduation ceremonies I addressed the class of 2019. I said during my speech:  Everyone here will encounter obstacles throughout their journeys. At that time, I had no idea what our world would be like one year later, and how much that obstacle would affect our graduates today.

Despite all of the uncertainty, the class of 2020 and their families have demonstrated true prairie grit and determination. At a time when these students should have been savouring the last remaining weeks of high school and putting the final touches on the graduation ceremonies, their excitement was cut short. Rather than let the moment pass unnoticed, the class of 2020 will be marking this milestone in a new way.

It is quoted: Believe you can and you re halfway there.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Even when many doors were closed, the parent grad committee didnt give up on the idea of celebrating the achievements of this years graduates, their sons and daughters. They knew they needed to be creative and adapt to our new reality, and with that goal in mind they found a way to CELEBRATE YOU, the 2020 graduating class of Warman High School.

inviteOn Thursday, June 25th the graduating class of Warman High School is celebrating with a procession from the school, down Central Street, and up Centennial Boulevard, ending at the Legends Centre. Come cheer them on! Clap, cheer and wave safely from the sidewalk as the students make their way through the city.

Then on June 26th, they will have a drive-up graduation at Wyant Group Raceway, where they will be honoured by their families and fellow students.

What the last three months have shown us is that we adapt. We realized starkly and frankly that we need each other. Celebrating lifes accomplishments is important. We faced head-on the reality that relationships are essential to us and how we miss the things we once took for granted. It has become apparent that we need to nurture and care for each other during every situation. This is what makes us richer as humans and makes our lives more complete.

There is no doubt this is a year we will all remember.

In these times of adversity, let's shine. Dont let anything derail your plans. As the old saying goes, Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you respond to it.And grads, one thing I have learned throughout my time on this earth is that life is full of surprises, some good and some not so good. This rock in your path is merely a stepping stone.

Mayor SpenceRemember graduates, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and loved more than you know.

On behalf of Warman City Council and our community, I wish all of our graduates a whole-hearted congratulations! We are all ready for the class of 2020 to change the world, and we can't wait to see what each of you make of it.
